THANDI'S MAGICAL MUSIC JOURNEY IN SOWETO

This moving story is set in the slums of Soweto, during the Apartheid era. It is narrated by Thandi, a resilient 12-year-old girl. Through her young, yet sharp perspective, the story exposes the terrible political, social and economic realities faced by Black South African Youth. Thandi exposes a life filled with fear, poverty, lack of resources and the State-enforced segregation. Eventually she was propelled out of the slums to worldwide musical fame. However, her triumphs are deeply overshadowed when her best friend Chris Hani was gunned down in the Freedom struggle. Her grief is the powerful reminder of the heavy, painful price of South Africa’s Liberation.
